Level Design
I was responsible for blocking out and detailling the Carso map when it was still early in development. The process of designing a historically accurate map was quite interesting because there are certain factual restrictions that had to remain in place. To name a few; the shape of the Map along with its elevation; the location of certain important landmarks such as the San Martino del Carso village, as well as the type of vegetation that can be found.
These where fun restriction to work into the existing objective-based multiplayer gameplay.
Because of the large altitude difference for example, the map crosses a treeline which means the lower half is much more green then the upper half. This not only provides a different look and feel but also different type of cover and objectives.
Another example of some narrative/historical integration is the somewhat famous Austrian/Hungarian ‘Schönburgtunnel’ which was dug out in this area between 1915 and 1916.
